The average mouth can accommodate 28 teeth and but by age 18, most people will develop an additional four molars, known as wisdom teeth.
Wisdom tooth growth is a mystery, but unfortunately, by the time they arrive, most people do not have room in their jaw bones to allow them to come in straight.
They can cause painful diseases or may only partially emerge, or appear in a crooked way, causing problems. A flap of a skin may grow over them, leading to food entrapment and infection.
Wisdom tooths are not strictly necessary in maintaining a healthy function of your teeth, and could lead to future problems if they do not appear in a painless and straight fashion.
Wisdom teeth surgery is performed under local anaesthesia. After extraction we prescribe some antibiotics, painkillers for post-op pain, infection. A follow-up visit after 7 days is necessary to get the stitches removed.
We recommend avoiding smoking, forceful chewing and hard foods during healing phase.
